One More Time

Remembering that we're talking about perception here, and that you have answered tow questions about relationships so far, I am now going to ask you one more series of questions. Were your parents divorced during your childhood? Have they divorced since? If your parents did divorce, what effect did it have on you?

We'll see what you all reply to these questions.

My parents weren't divorced...but my Dad passed away when I was 8 years old. This made me grow up way before my time. I felt responsible for my Mom's happiness and did all I could to ensure she had it. It took a lot of energy, looking back, to do this...I feel I missed out on a lot of "kid" things...Also the fact that other people had "whole" families and I didn't. It also effected me in my relationships later in life...I was always looking for my Dad....

My parents were married for 34 years, until the day my mother died. My dad has been remarried for 11 years now.

I'm sorry to hear about your Dad, Odat. My Mom's father also died when she was 5, and she grew up very close to her mother, and missing her father all the time.

Hi Ali, your Mom died when you were already married, didn't she? How do you get along with your step mother? How about your kids and your step-mother?

Did your parents divorce happen while you were still a kid Mist? And did it have any effect on you?

Do you think your husband's parent's divorce affected him adversely CMHL?

It's funny isn't it that on my blog, I'll tell you about what color panties I have on, but when it comes to this, I'm a little cagey?

Divorce effects people. The weather effects people. It's just like that. Staying married effects the kids too.

My parents are best friends. They were great when I was growing up. They are even better now. I want to be just like them when I grow up. Except, I don't want a beard like my dad.

No, and no.

My parents are still together, and alive.

They have a great relationship - one of the most functioning and easy-going yet organized relationship i've ever seen.

I do envy them at times, yet there were times as a kid I remember thinking "When/If I get married, my marriage will be nothing like theirs. They do so much on their own, they have totally separate extracurricular activities/interests...how could this work? I want my marriage to be the exact opposite."

and now, I wish my marriage were more like theirs.

My parents divorced when I was very young, however it had no affect on me because he was an ass and I am damn glad that my mom did not stay to put up with his BS

hmm, my parents divorced, remarried each other and then divorced again only to become really good friends.

My parents were married until my mother died. My father died a year later.

And, Mist, what color are your panties?

My parents fought a lot when I was growing up and my mom threatened to leave all the time, but they stayed together. They are very cute and loving and indulgent with each other now. It's gross. ;)

Yeah, they divorced when I was seventeen, but I’d already decided to leave home by then. My cynicism about marriage is based more on their decision to ‘stick it out for the child’s sake’ than their divorce.
