Dismal Rides Again Part Deux

Another NY Times article, and there's another one in Forbes, about China closing down 180 food factories after finding 23,000 violations of food additives and other problems? Think it's just soy sauce? Biscuits, candy, through seafood; and enough illegal ingredients, dyes, and chemicals that the food supply has been compromised.

The Chinese are pointing fingers. They have confiscate an American shipment of fruit as having an unacceptable bacteria level. I'm sorry, I can't go on.

Who needs terrorists and suicide bombers? We apparently have the Chinese and a compromised food supply. I wonder what I ate that is going to be recalled?

It's a very sad state of affairs. Maybe we all need to return to the lives of our Grand Parents, self grown, home made, etc. We are supposed to be the strongest country in the world. Too bad we can't do business in the right way.

Now I am sick to my stomach!

Hmmm, it does rather encourage one to buy and consume local, seasonal produce.

Are you sure that some health inspector out there is just a tad analy retentive and needs to give himself a feeling of importance and so he does that by sending a ship back to it's port in China!???

Hey, if it weren't for the greed of our American companies trying to get things cheap...this wouldn't be happening......
Let's point the finger at them first!

(see i have been doing a lil thinking while my foot is healing!)

I agree with the others, I think we should simplify. Grow a garden. Go to the farmers market. Eat fresh.

To almost all of you, I agree, buy local produce, always good to support your local folks. The problem comes from things that you buy that are fabricated. One of the products that was tainted was flour. Did General Mills buy any Chinese flour to make cereal? Did Pillsbury make any baked goods that you might have bought using Chinese flour? How would you know?

What about fish, or any shellfish? Commercial fish are raised on fish farms now. The Chinese have huge fish farms. One of the pathetic stories was that a 220 pound pig was sent to market after it had been filled with 60 pounds of waste water so it would weigh more. Pigs are sold by weight. That's outright fraud.

Finally, even the Chinese are up in arms when it became apparent that their food supply was also compromised. There's a good reason that you don't have pure capitalism, and you're seeing it now.

Odat would be right except as members of the World Tade Organization and having Most Favored Nation Status, one does not expect tainted food in trade. There are standards. One does not expect children's toys painted with lead paint.

The World should have learned with Nixon and Watergate that stonewalling and lying only makes matters worse. Coming clean and solving problems is what counts. And avoiding deaths.

I hope I never find out what mercury tastes like, myself.
